About Us
Hello, I’m Wendy. Together with my daughter Harriet, we have created “Caroline & Alexandra”, an online business where we showcase and sell our inspired collection of Objets d'Art to discerning buyers. Here you will find an eclectic mix of antique, contemporary hand crafted textile home décor and re-imagined objects of beauty.
Raised in an artistic environment where creativity and a love of the decorative arts was positively encouraged, I spent most of my childhood recreating and designing headdresses and costumes from TV drama productions. This, along with a visit at the age of nine to The V&A Museum in London to see an exhibition entitled ‘Back to the drawing board’, started a love of working in fabrics and designing costume.
I studied Art and upon gaining my BA Hons degree in Illustration began to work free -lance. I also started to teach on the very same foundation Art & Design course I had taken myself. During this period, I began to rekindle my love of working with fabric and started my own successful couture wedding gown boutique, as sole designer and maker. Since then I have worked on costumes for the West End production of Mack and Mabel and now teach Art & Design at GCSE and A level.
So, how did I become interested in Antiques?
I have been a collector – even a magpie – all my life. Once I overcame the hurdle of continuing to collect & keep, I started selling my collections through antique centres and occasionally online. The idea for an online shop came about through my daughter and her wider knowledge of technology. Together we buy and sell items we deem to be aesthetically pleasing, sometimes unique and with function ever in mind. We carefully select objects to not only have impact, but that sit comfortably within the 21st Century.
And the home décor?
I believe there is a skill to successfully combining unique antique pieces and contemporary items within home décor and indeed this is where our idea to hand-craft textile items of a more contemporary nature came about. We occasionally re-imagine less valuable furniture pieces and breathe new life into them. When we finally get a showroom, we shall incorporate home décor to complement our choice of antiques for sale.
We only buy, make and sell things we love.
