Oil painting on stretched canvas

The unusual hues within this painting are typically early/mid century, ie. the purple, receding background and the muted palette used in most of the flowers. There is, however, a stronger unrealistic blue evident in the 'peonies' which adds an almost unexpected primitive touch as if in the hope of better anticipated times ahead???   Measures 43cm x 56cm, orientation is portrait.
